Limited Edition Faber Castell - Pen of the Year 2007 Limited Edition Faber Castell - Pen of the Year 2007
Faber-Castell´s legacy of transforming the living material of wood into the finest writing instruments reaches a new pinnacle of beauty in the form of petrified wood.

Petrified wood comes about in a crystallization process lasting up to 360 million years. Wood covered by water or ash undergoes a unique metamorphosis when minerals, metals, lime, or phosphorus penetrate the wood through layers of sediment. The materials gradually replace the wood but leave some of the organic structure intact. In a silica-rich environment, the petrified wood begins to develop into the preliminary stages of semi-precious chalcedony or agate.

The dark colouring and hardness of this wood when refined presents a gemstone finish of the highest quality. Individual hues vary from light brown through anthracite to deep black, all with a characteristic sparkle. A platinum-plated frame encases eight "stones" of the precious material and the end of the cap features the material faceted as a diamond and polished to a mirror finish. The logo of the Herbert Stephan Gemstone Manufacturer, guaranteeing the genuineness of the fossil material, can be seen on the inside of this end cap plate.

The plunger-action fountain pen features an 18k bi-coloured nib and is enclosed in an exclusive wooden case with a brochure and certificate of limitation and authenticity.

Montblanc Writers Edition - Virginia WOOLF Montblanc Writers Edition - Virginia WOOLF
To mark the 75th anniversary of the publication of THE WAVES, Montblanc is launching a 2006 edition of unique writing instruments dedicated to the memory of the pioneer of feminist literature.

Virginia Woolf was undeniably one of the most trailblazing female authors of the 20th century: Finding an innovative narrative style that expressed the inner strife and loneliness of the people portrayed in modernist literature was always more important to Virginia Woolf than a classical plot in her work.

The graceful contours of the black, durable, epoxy resin barrel with its gold plated rings featuring a guilloche pattern of finely engraved waves, pay tribute of Virginia Woolf´s most epoch making novel, whilst symbolising her unsettled life. The gold plated clip, with a faceted ruby, arches over the cap with its ivory colored Montblanc Star, commemorating the literary brilliance of her work. Virginia Woolf´s signature is engraved on the cone of the fountain pen as well as on the front of the ballpoint pen and the propelling pencil - a fine engraving on the 18 ct gold nib of the writing instruments depicts her last resting place: The two elms on the Woolfs´ Monks House estate near Sussex.

S.T. Dupont Limited Edition - Versailles S.T. Dupont Limited Edition - Versailles
S.T. Dupont pays tribute to the craftsmanship illustrated at the Chateau de Versailles, saluting the masterpieces created not only by famous painters but also by the thousands of anonymous craftsmen who worked behind the scenes.

Drawing inspiration from the sun, a theme that is omnipresent at Versailles and royal emblems like the fleur-de-lis, S.T. Dupont has created the Versailles limited edition as an expression of the French art of living.

White lacquer, decorated with motifs in fine gold, recalls the tranquil atmosphere of the chateau’s salons, its baroque-style furniture, and its richly decorated ceilings. This contrasts with the lattice motif, a decorative theme which appears throughout the range, inspired by the rectangular shapes of the Versailles French-style gardens.

The two pens in the Versailles limited edition are numbered out of 1686, the date when the hall of Mirrors, which Louis XIV commissioned Le Brun to decorate, was opened.

Now available at Mayr & Fessler in Vienna, Austria.
